Are you a clinical looking to collaborate?
Having worked in public and private clinics, I’ve worked with different disciplines, including psychiatry, psychology, social work, recreational therapy, nursing, and more. Get in touch if you have a client you think might benefit from mental health occupational therapy (privately or in the public sector). Depending on your client’s goals, I can support you with assessments, referrals, and possibly co-treating.
Are you a student looking for mentorship?
Per the Department of Occupational Therapy, all placements must go through HSPnet. I am unable to supervise or mentor students outside of matched placements.
Are you a community member or non-profit looking to collaborate?
Beyond being an occupational therapist, I have eight years and counting of experience working in Public Health.
During my academic career, I worked in various research positions at municipal and provincial levels within healthcare in fields such as Brain and Aging, Surgery, International Population Health, Occupational Therapy, Community Health, Addictions and Mental Health, and Pediatrics. I’ve even had the opportunity to be a principal investigator on a research project conducted at the University of Alberta, looking at how international students define healthy eating and the challenges they face in cooking nutritious meals, as well as looking at factors of adjustment as a correlate for mental wellbeing among graduate students at the University of Alberta. I am also an award-winning lecturer and was trained in teaching post-secondary students through the University of Alberta’s Peter Lougheed Leadership College Teaching Fellowship Program. Using this knowledge, I’ve supported course development in various organizations. For example, developing and facilitating a course on trauma-informed approaches for the Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA) and an advocacy, inclusion and allyship course for grassroots community organizations through the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues. I also previously worked as a Community Inclusion Advisor, supporting grassroots community non-profits through the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues to become stronger allies and create inclusive spaces within the neighbourhoods they serve in Edmonton.
I’m currently working on programming to alleviate some of the barriers people face to accessing culturally relevant foods and community integration through a non-profit organization I run called Converse and Cook. We develop and deliver cooking socials and create workshops and resources to help community members understand how food can be used as a medium for community building and integration. Currently, I have some grant funding to help cover most of the costs of facilitating this program in various underrepresented communities in Edmonton. Feel free to connect if you want to collaborate on an idea.
I can support you with course development, skill building, and consulting on how to make programming and spaces more inclusive and accessible. I have done workshops on various topics related to mental health.
